The mother of two says her biggest mistake in life was taking full financial responsibility for her husband from the time she was just 19 years old.
In an interview shared by TUKO.co.ke, Grace recalled that during their early dating years, she would send her boyfriend fare whenever he wanted to visit her and even pay for his return trips.
When they later started living together in Nairobi, she became the main provider, covering all household bills including rent and food while he stayed at home.
Determined to help him become productive, Grace gave him KSh 47,000 to start a business.
However, the venture quickly failed, and he came back empty-handed.
Later, she gave him KSh 50,000 to open a wine shop, which also collapsed mysteriously.
The final blow came in 2021 when she entrusted him with KSh 300,000 for an investment he claimed would bring quick returns — only to discover it was a scam.
Despite the losses, Grace continued to believe in him. When she visited his rural home in Meru and found he had no house, she decided to build one for him.
Using her savings of KSh 750,000, she started the construction project but ran out of funds halfway.
To complete the house, she borrowed heavily from shylocks and friends, sinking deeper into debt.
Sadly, soon after the house was finished, her husband began cheating and eventually left her for another woman.
“He took everything from me — my money, my peace, and my trust. When he left, I was left with loans to pay and two children to care for,” Grace said emotionally.
She now warns women against blindly financing men who show no effort or ambition.
“Love should never make you forget self-respect,” she advised, adding that financial support should be mutual in relationships.
