Leaders and citizens had gathered to honour the late Raila Odinga, but Salasya’s words brought a moment of light.
Speaking to Raila’s widow, Mama Ida Odinga, Salasya praised her for the courage and calm she had shown since her husband’s passing.
He said Ida had become a motherly figure to many Kenyans and urged her to continue guiding young leaders.
“I am still a young man trying to find my way in politics,” Salasya said with a smile.
“Mama Ida, please pray for me so that one day I find a wife like you—wise, patient, and supportive.”
His comment made the crowd laugh, easing the emotional mood of the day.
The MP went on to say that Ida’s strength during the difficult time had inspired many people across the country.
He believed that her peaceful nature could help hold Kenya together, just as Raila had done for decades.
“You now carry a big responsibility,” he told her.
“People look to you for calm when things get tough. Your grace gives hope to many.”
Salasya also shared a touching story about how he had felt spiritually guided to visit Raila shortly before his death.
He said something in his heart told him to change his travel plans and go to Kisumu and Bondo instead.
“I did not understand it then, but I now believe it was God’s plan,” he said.
As a sign of respect, Salasya promised to gift the Odinga family a Friesian cow rather than the traditional bull, saying he wanted to offer something useful and meaningful.
He added that elders from his community would visit the family later to honour the man who had inspired so many.
The young MP ended his remarks by urging Kenyans to remain united.
He said the spirit of Raila Odinga lived on through the values of peace, honesty, and unity—principles that should continue guiding the nation.
