The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams are now under strict watch after reports of cheating emerged in Narok and Kajiado counties.
Education officials and police officers have begun investigations into several cases of malpractice that occurred in some schools.
In Narok County, invigilators reportedly discovered unauthorized materials inside exam rooms, raising concerns about possible cheating.
In Kajiado, some students were allegedly caught with mobile phones and written notes, which is against the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) rules.
Officials have already questioned the suspects and recorded their statements.
Investigators are now trying to find out whether any teachers or invigilators were involved in helping students cheat.
The Ministry of Education and KNEC have responded by increasing security and surveillance in all exam centers across the two counties.
Police officers have been deployed to ensure that the rules are followed strictly and that no one interferes with the exams.
“The integrity of the KCSE exams is non-negotiable. We have deployed more officers to make sure that all centers remain secure and that results remain credible,” said a KNEC official who requested anonymity.
KNEC has also warned students, teachers, and parents against trying to get exam papers before they are officially released.
The council said all exam materials are kept in secure containers under police guard and anyone caught leaking papers will face arrest and prosecution.
Education stakeholders have urged teachers and school heads to remain disciplined and transparent throughout the remaining exam period.
They also encouraged students to depend on their own effort and preparation instead of looking for shortcuts.
Authorities in Narok and Kajiado have confirmed that investigations are ongoing.
Any exam center found guilty of breaking KNEC rules will have its results canceled and could be barred from hosting future national exams.
The Ministry of Education has assured parents that the national exams are still safe and credible.
Officials said that the isolated cases of cheating will not affect the overall integrity of the KCSE process.
