Kathiani Member of Parliament Robert Mbui has sparked concern after claiming he might be under a “curse” following the deaths of two prominent Kenyan leaders while he was out of the country.
Speaking during a church service in Machakos County, Mbui said the unusual coincidences have left him deeply troubled and in need of prayers.
The Wiper Party legislator explained that he was abroad when both former President Mwai Kibaki and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga passed away.
“When President Kibaki died, I was outside the country. The same thing has now happened with the death of Raila Odinga. I feel like there is something wrong, and I truly need prayers,” Mbui said.
He added that while he does not believe in superstition, the repeated timing of the tragedies has made him reflect deeply on his spiritual well-being.
“I am not saying I am cursed, but these coincidences are strange. I just want to seek God’s intervention and blessings,” he added.
Mbui’s remarks drew mixed reactions from the congregation, with many sympathizing with him and others urging him not to take the matter too seriously.
Religious leaders present at the service prayed for the MP, assuring him that such occurrences should not be interpreted as a curse but rather as part of life’s mysteries.
The Kathiani MP is known for his outspoken nature and close association with Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
His emotional statement has since gone viral on social media, with Kenyans expressing both concern and humor over his situation.
Mbui concluded by saying he remains committed to serving his constituents and putting his faith in God to guide him through what he described as “a spiritually testing period.”
