Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba has announced a major drop in cases of exam malpractice in the recently concluded KCSE examinations.
He shared the update on Saturday, November 22, 2025, during the 11th anniversary celebration of the Gospel Embassy Chapel in Kisii County.
According to Ogamba, only 418 cases of cheating were recorded nationwide this year. Last year, the number stood at 600 cases, showing a strong improvement.
The CS said the success is the result of strict supervision, better planning, and new reforms introduced by the Ministry of Education.
Ogamba explained that 3.4 million learners sat for the national examinations this year. He assured Kenyans that the government worked hard to protect the integrity of the exams.
He noted that exam cheating had been a serious concern in the past, but the recent efforts are beginning to restore public trust.
“This year we had 3.4 million learners who undertook the examinations, and out of this, the government only registered 418 instances,” Ogamba said.
He added that the ministry would continue improving monitoring systems to make sure exams remain credible.
The event was graced by President William Ruto, who had also travelled to Kisii for the church celebration.
Ogamba thanked the President for supporting the education sector through key reforms.
These include the recruitment of more teachers, addressing challenges during strikes involving KUPPET, KNUT, and UASU, and ensuring smooth implementation of the new curriculum.
The CS also highlighted several developments taking place in the region. Among them is the construction of Nyamira University College in Kiabonyoru, which is expected to enroll its first group of students next year.
Ogamba said this project will open more opportunities for young people and reduce the struggle parents face when seeking higher education facilities for their children.
A major part of his speech focused on the Grade 10 transition. Ogamba assured parents and teachers that the government is fully prepared to handle the process.
He promised that no learner will be left behind, and if new problems arise in January, the ministry will be ready to respond quickly.
South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro was also present at the event. He congratulated the CS for the progress made, saying education is one of the most important sectors for the future of the country.
Ogamba concluded by saying the reduced cases of exam malpractice should build confidence among students and parents.
He stated that the ministry is determined to protect national exams and ensure every learner gets a fair chance.
