Nakhumicha and Chris Wamalwa Seek to Unseat Natembeya in Tranz-Nzoia

The race for the Trans-Nzoia County Governor seat in the 2027 General Election has officially begun.

Former Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa and former Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha have both announced that they will be seeking to replace Governor George Natembeya.

Their declarations have already stirred new political excitement in the county.

Chris Wamalwa made his announcement on Saturday, 22nd November, during a public address.

He used popular Swahili sayings and Biblical references to show that he was ready for the long political journey ahead.

He told residents that the day was meant for honest conversations and that his campaign for the governor position had started fully.

Wamalwa described Trans-Nzoia as a county with many communities living together. Because of this, he promised to run a campaign that includes everyone.

He said he plans to visit all corners of the county to listen to people from every community and understand their needs.

He thanked Luyha elders for giving him advice and blessings. He explained that while the county is cosmopolitan, the Luyha community has deep roots in the region.

For that reason, he believes it is important to begin engagement with the native community before reaching out to the rest of the residents.

Around the same time, former Health CS Susan Nakhumicha also confirmed her intention to run for the governor seat.

Speaking during a family gathering, she said her relatives had encouraged her to represent the whole county instead of limiting her ambitions to the woman representative position.

She stated that the people of Trans-Nzoia deserve leadership that focuses on all wards equally.

In her speech, Nakhumicha reminded residents that the Kenyan Constitution gives every citizen the freedom to contest any leadership position, regardless of gender.

She said this was the right moment for women to step forward and compete for top county seats.

According to her, Trans-Nzoia is ready for a governor who brings unity, fairness, and development to the people.

Despite the rising political activity around him, Governor George Natembeya has not commented on the new challengers.

However, he recently stated that no amount of pressure would stop his mission to bring unity and strong leadership to the Western region.

He has been very vocal about reshaping regional politics and believes his development agenda speaks for itself.

Many political observers believe the 2027 race in Trans-Nzoia will be one of the most competitive contests in the Western region.

With two strong personalities now in the race, residents expect a campaign full of new ideas and promises for better services.
