The sad news was shared on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, by Raila’s elder sister, Ruth Odinga. She confirmed that Beryl passed away earlier in the day.
According to Ruth, Beryl was the daughter of Kenya’s independence hero and former Vice President, the late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, and his first wife, Mary Auma.
This makes her a biological sister to the Late Raila Odinga and Siaya Senator Dr. Oburu Odinga. Ruth described the loss as sudden and painful, noting that the family is heartbroken but choosing to accept God’s will.
In her message to the public, Ruth remembered Beryl as a dedicated mother to her children—Ami Auma, Chizi, and Taurus.
She said the family will miss her greatly but will hold onto the good memories they shared. Ruth added that although Beryl’s death leaves a big gap in their lives, they take comfort in believing she is now resting peacefully.
“It is with a heavy heart that we announce the sudden passing of Beryl Achieng Odinga. Daughter of the late Hon. Jaramogi Odinga and Mama Mary Ajuma Oginga.
Mother to Ami Auma, Chizi and Taurus,” Ruth said in her statement. She also thanked friends and supporters who have already begun sending their condolences.
The news has touched many Kenyans, especially those who follow the Odinga family’s long history in national politics.
Raila Odinga, a former Prime Minister and influential political figure, has not yet issued a public statement, but many expect him to do so soon as the family finalizes funeral arrangements.
