Democracy for Citizens Party Deputy Party Leader, Hon. Cleophas Malala, has today launched a scathing attack on ODM Chairperson and Homa Bay Governor, Hon. Gladys Wanga, accusing her of being the “chief inciter of tribalism” in the country.
Speaking during a press briefing in Nairobi, Malala dismissed Wanga’s recent claims that Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga was promoting ethnic division in defence of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Malala said Wanga’s remarks were misplaced and driven by political bitterness. He maintained that Governor Kahiga was an independent leader who had only expressed his political opinion, adding that there was no blood or family relation between Kahiga and Gachagua as Wanga had insinuated.
“Governor Kahiga is a member of the UDA party, just like the Deputy President. They share political ideology, not kinship.
It is dishonest and malicious for Hon. Wanga to portray him as tribal for standing with his party colleague,” Malala stated.
He further accused the ODM Chairperson of hypocrisy, saying that she had no moral authority to lecture other leaders on unity while her own party had a history of promoting regional politics.
“Hon. Wanga should first clean her own house. ODM has long thrived on ethnic mobilisation, and it is ironic for her to accuse others of tribalism,” he added.
Malala urged leaders across the political divide to promote national cohesion instead of trading insults and using ethnicity as a weapon to gain political mileage.
He called on Kenyans to remain vigilant and reject divisive politics, insisting that democracy should be anchored on ideas and service delivery rather than tribal affiliations.
Governor Wanga has not yet responded to Malala’s remarks by the time of going to press.
