Former Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) employee, William Nyabera, was on Sunday evening fatally stabbed while walking home from church in Nakuru, in what police and family members are describing as a baffling and tragic incident.
According to eyewitnesses, Nyabera was attacked by unknown assailants along a dimly lit path near the Section 58 area shortly after 8 p.m.
Despite efforts by bystanders to rush him to hospital, he succumbed to his injuries before receiving medical attention.
Strangely, the attackers did not steal any of Nyabera’s belongings his phone, wallet, and watch were all found intact leaving investigators and relatives puzzled about the motive behind the brutal killing.
“If it was a robbery, they would have taken something. This looks planned,” said one of Nyabera’s close friends, who requested anonymity.
The deceased’s family has since expressed frustration with the police, accusing them of laxity and poor communication regarding the progress of the investigation.
“It has been days, and we have not received any meaningful update. We feel forgotten,” said Nyabera’s elder brother, adding that the family is demanding justice and transparency from law enforcement authorities.
Police have launched an investigation into the murder, with Nakuru East Sub-County Police Commander confirming that detectives are following several leads.
“We are treating this as a homicide. We urge anyone with information to come forward,” he said.
Nyabera, who retired from KBC after years of service in the broadcasting department, was described by colleagues and friends as a humble, church-going man who had no known enemies.
His untimely death has left the local media fraternity and church community in shock.
