Lawyer and political commentator Wahome Thuku has weighed in on the recent silence of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, suggesting that his quietness is unsettling President William Ruto’s camp more than any public statements would.
According to Wahome, Gachagua’s “solid silence” has left Ruto’s allies increasingly uneasy. He claimed that the group appears frustrated and unsure of how to respond to Gachagua’ssilence.
Wahome humorously added that the tension might even push them to “send Subarus to Wamunyoro to search for receipts of a transaction he did when he was DO,” implying that attempts could be made to dig up old records or controversies to make him start speaking again.
Drawing parallels to history, Wahome compared Gachagua’s current situation to that of the late Kenneth Matiba, who, after resigning from Cabinet in 1988, chose to focus on his private businesses, a silence that reportedly disturbed President Daniel arap Moi so much that he sent Special Branch officers to investigate him.
Wahome concluded that Ruto’s administration might react similarly if Gachagua’s silence continues, as it has already become a source of political discomfort and speculation.
