Still in Bondo: The Mystery Behind Sakaja’s Extended Stay

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has raised eyebrows after remaining in Bondo, Siaya County, for five days following the burial of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

While most dignitaries returned to their respective counties soon after the elaborate state funeral, Sakaja’s continued presence in Raila’s hometown has stirred curiosity and speculation across political circles.

Sources close to the governor suggest his stay is “personal and reflective,” noting that Sakaja has been spending time meeting local leaders and visiting development projects in the region.

Others, however, hint at deeper political undertones — suggesting that the Nairobi Governor may be aligning himself with emerging post-Raila power networks within the opposition.

“He has been seen several times around Opoda Farm and Bondo town, holding informal discussions with leaders who were very close to Raila,” a local resident disclosed.

“People are wondering what exactly is going on — it doesn’t look like an ordinary visit anymore.”

Sakaja, known for his calm demeanor and strategic mind, has not issued an official statement about his prolonged stay. His team has only said that he is “on a brief private retreat.”

Yet the timing — coming right after Raila’s farewell and amid heightened political realignments — has left many reading between the lines.

Observers believe Sakaja’s actions could signal a new chapter in his political journey, possibly bridging relations between key national blocs as Kenya redefines its leadership landscape after Raila’s passing.

Whether it is grief, strategy, or symbolism keeping him in Bondo, one thing is certain: Sakaja’s silence is speaking volumes — and Kenya is watching closely to see what his next move will be.
