Ida Odinga Breaks Silence After SK Macharia’s Significant Visit: He Has Always Stood With Our Family

Ida Odinga, the widow of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, has spoken publicly for the first time following an emotional visit by Royal Media Services Chairman Dr. SK Macharia to their Bondo home.

Mama Ida expressed deep gratitude to Dr. Macharia, describing him as a long-time and loyal friend to the Odinga family.

Her heartfelt message shed light on the decades-old bond between the two families, rooted in mutual respect and shared struggles.

“I want to thank SK on behalf of the Odinga family,” Ida said.

“Our relationship with him goes back a long way to the early 1990s. SK Macharia has always been a close friend of this family. In March 1992, when I was sacked for the second time, the first person who reached out to me was SK. He has stood with us ever since, and for that, I want to sincerely thank him.”

Her remarks came a day after Dr. Macharia visited Raila’s grave in Bondo, accompanied by Governors Gladys Wanga (Homa Bay) and James Orengo (Siaya), where he laid flowers and offered his condolences to the family.

The visit stirred emotions among mourners who praised the veteran media mogul for his humility and loyalty.

Dr. Macharia had earlier described the late Raila as “a brother and a friend whose legacy will live forever,” recalling their shared history that dated back to the era of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga.

Ida’s words have since drawn warm reactions across the country, with many Kenyans lauding the gesture as a reflection of genuine friendship and solidarity.

As the nation continues to mourn Raila Odinga’s passing, the moment between Ida and SK Macharia has reminded many of the enduring power of loyalty, empathy, and lasting friendship amid grief.
