ODM Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi openly questioned the conduct of some leaders following the death of Raila Odinga, affectionately known as "Baba."
Amisi’s pointed remarks challenge the sincerity and priorities of political actors, particularly those who seem more engaged in defending the Broad-Based Party than honoring the legacy of the iconic leader they once rallied behind.
Addressing the political frenzy post-Baba’s passing, Amisi asked why figures like Wanga and others have been so politically active, seemingly bypassing the solemn period of mourning.
He expressed deep disappointment at how tribal tensions have been ignited across media platforms, painting a picture of division rather than unity in a time that should call for solidarity.
“What happened to the period of mourning?” Amisi demanded.
He questioned why the death of such a legendary and enigmatic figure has been met with what he described as casual disregard by leaders who owe their political careers to Raila Odinga’s mentorship and vision.
“Why are they so fixed on ODM’s future and presidential succession more than paying respect to the founder?” he challenged.
Amisi’s rhetoric extended to a direct confrontation about loyalty and respect, asking why some politicians rush to chase away loyal ODM leaders like himself, Sifuna, and Babu—figures who Baba never rejected but cherished.
He called out the premature and almost celebratory discussions about Baba’s political succession as disrespectful and premature.
Highlighting concerns about how Raila’s health was managed, Amisi hinted at possible mishandling and questioned the suddenness of Baba’s death, implying that it deserved more transparency and respect.
In essence, Caleb Amisi’s message is a call for introspection among Kenya’s political class: to honor Raila Odinga’s memory with dignity, unity, and respect—not to allow political ambition and tribal animosity to overshadow the legacy of a man who shaped the country’s democratic journey.
