Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has alleged that the murder of Rachel Wandeto was directed by Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and subsequently endorsed by the police.
Gachagua claims the involvement of security officers in the incident explains why no arrests have been made several months after Wandeto’s death.
According to Gachagua, the lack of arrests raises serious questions about the circumstances surrounding the case and the conduct of law enforcement agencies handling the investigation.
He has suggested that those responsible for Wandeto’s death may have been protected because of their alleged links to powerful individuals within government.
The allegations come after President William Ruto vowed to ensure that those responsible for Wandeto’s killing would be brought to justice. Gachagua’s remarks have therefore intensified calls for a transparent and independent investigation into the case.
The claims against Murkomen and the police remain allegations and have not been established in court
