Jubilee Democratic Party (JDP) leader Jeremiah Kioni has revealed that opposition leader Raila Odinga once indicated that he was ready to step away from active politics after the 2022 General Election.

According to Kioni, Raila brought together a small group of leaders in Mombasa shortly after the 2022 elections and told them that he was done with politics.

He reportedly encouraged younger politicians to take responsibility and prepare themselves to compete in future elections.

Kioni said Raila urged the younger generation to stop relying on established politicians and instead organise themselves to seek elective positions in the 2027 General Election. “Immediately after the 2022 elections, Raila assembled a few of us in Mombasa, and he said he was done with politics,” Kioni said.

He added that Raila told them it was time for young leaders to begin mobilising, building political networks and preparing to run for office. Kioni’s remarks come as political parties and leaders intensify preparations and alliances ahead of the 2027 polls.
