Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has urged President William Ruto to stop attacking former President Uhuru Kenyatta, arguing that the retired president should be allowed to enjoy his life away from the political battles of the day.
Natembeya accused Ruto of unnecessarily dragging Uhuru into current political debates instead of concentrating on the challenges facing Kenyans.
His remarks come amid renewed political exchanges between Ruto and leaders opposed to his administration.
According to Natembeya, Uhuru is no longer in office and therefore should not be treated as the source of every problem facing the country.
He challenged Ruto to focus on his own administration and address issues that have emerged during his tenure rather than repeatedly referring to his predecessor.
“Leave Uhuru alone!” Natembeya declared, in a pointed message directed at the President.
The governor argued that political leaders should be judged by what they are doing in government rather than by constantly revisiting the past.
He maintained that Ruto has been in charge for several years and should therefore take responsibility for his administration's record.
Natembeya's comments are likely to add fresh momentum to the growing political debate surrounding Uhuru's continued influence in Kenyan politics.
Although Uhuru retired from the presidency in 2022, his name continues to feature prominently in political discussions, particularly as parties and leaders position themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election.
