Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament, Peter Kaluma, has strongly criticized former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over his recent political remarks.
Kaluma accused Gachagua of trying to divide the country and questioned his leadership intentions.
Kaluma said that Gachagua cannot claim to lead the people while rejecting other leaders.
He mentioned that Gachagua has openly dismissed prominent figures like Martha Karua, Jeremiah Kioni, Kalonzo Musyoka, and Fred Matiang’i. These leaders have all played major roles in Kenya’s political scene.
“You can’t hold public office and reject everyone,” Kaluma said. “You don’t want Martha Karua. You don’t want Kioni.
You don’t want Kalonzo. You don’t want Matiang’i. So where exactly are you taking the Kikuyu community?”
Kaluma warned that such divisive talk can lead to tribal tension and political isolation.
He said that Kenya belongs to everyone, and no single community should be made to feel like they are being controlled or pushed in one direction by one politician.
He accused Gachagua of behaving like he owns the Kikuyu community and trying to speak for them without listening to what people really want.
Kaluma also reminded him that leadership is about unity, not pushing others out.
The MP said that by dismissing experienced and respected leaders, Gachagua is showing that he is not ready to work with others.
“If you cannot work with anyone, how do you plan to govern?” Kaluma asked.
Kaluma’s comments have attracted attention from both supporters and critics. Some people agree that Gachagua should not speak for an entire community, while others believe he has a right to express his views.
