Vote and Go Home, Don’t Loiter Around Polling Stations – Murkomen Warns

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has warned voters against lingering around polling stations during the Thursday, November 27 by-elections.

Speaking in Kasipul, Homa Bay County, Murkomen urged citizens to cast their votes and return home immediately.

“Please exercise your voting rights peacefully. Once you vote, go home. There is no need to stay around polling stations claiming to protect votes or campaign,” said Murkomen.

He added that hanging around polling or tallying centers is unnecessary. “Elections conclude at the polling station. There’s no value in loitering at tallying centers,” he explained.

Murkomen also issued a stern warning to anyone planning to bring troublemakers to polling stations, emphasizing that the law will take strict action.

“Anyone intending to disrupt peaceful elections will face the full force of the law. The police are ready to act,” he said.

This comes after the National Police Service (NPS) advised politicians to avoid making statements that could threaten peace or undermine public trust in state institutions.

NPS Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga reminded leaders to respect electoral officials and avoid inciteful or defamatory remarks. “All political leaders must refrain from statements that encourage violence or hatred and cooperate fully with election officials to ensure credible elections,” said Nyaga.

The NPS also urged the public to remain calm and continue with their daily routines during the by-elections.
