UDA Governor Faces Fresh 3rd Impeachment

Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo is once again facing an impeachment attempt after a fresh motion was tabled at the County Assembly on Monday.

The motion has been introduced by Bonyamatuta Ward MCA Julius Kimwomi Matwere, who accuses the governor of gross misconduct, abuse of office, and irregular appointments.

This marks the third time the governor is being targeted for removal, showing the deep political divisions in the county.

According to MCA Matwere, the governor has violated the Constitution and other laws while running county affairs.

He said the latest motion is based on what he describes as serious misuse of power by the county boss.

In the notice, he argued that the governor has repeatedly ignored the law, which makes impeachment necessary.

This new process adds pressure on Governor Nyaribo, who has been struggling to unite the County Assembly. Over the past few years, he has survived two impeachment attempts.

In September last year, he survived by only one vote. Out of the 34 members who attended the session, 22 voted to remove him while 12 opposed the motion.

The attempt failed because the law requires a two-thirds majority.

The governor also survived another impeachment in September 2023. During that attempt, 16 MCAs voted to remove him while 18 opposed, saving his job.

These repeated attempts show that the political environment in Nyamira has been unstable for a long time.

At the same time, Governor Nyaribo is under investigation by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission.

The agency is looking into claims of irregular tenders worth Ksh382 million. Last month, EACC officers raided the homes and offices of the governor and several senior county officials.

The raids took place in Nyamira, Kisii, and Nairobi as part of an operation to gather evidence.

Officials linked to the case were identified as persons of interest, raising more questions about how county funds have been used.

The County Assembly has adjourned until Tuesday, November 18, when MCAs will meet again to debate and vote on the motion.

Many residents are watching closely, hoping for stability and transparency in their county leadership.

Governor Nyaribo now faces one of the toughest moments in his political career.

How the MCAs vote will determine whether he continues to lead Nyamira or is forced out of office after years of political battles.
