Setback to Matiangi as Source Indicates Tempting Promise Ruto Has Given to Win Over Gusii Heartland

As the eagerly awaited 2027 general elections continue to draw near, political figures vying for the country's top political seat including incumbent President William Ruto, have been doing all the possible arithmetics, in bid to amass influence and support in key vote-rich regions.

Having significantly lost grip of the Mt Kenya votes that steered him to power in 2022, President Ruto has been figuring out on ways to substitute the lost votes, by eyeing what seemed to be Raila Odinga's political zones including Kisii region which was always loyal to the late Prime Minister.

In a tactical move seemingly meant to quash the political ambitions of former Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Dr. Fred Matiangi, President William Ruto has appealed to the people of Kisii region, not to allow local leaders to divide them along different lines as their votes for him will make them continue to enjoy his goodwill in terms of development.

Aside from that, the Father of the Nation also assured the residents that his administration will expedite construction of the Standard Gauge Railway SGR terminus at Ikonge, Nyamira county, in bid to lessen the cost endured by the local traders when ferrying their goods to various parts of the country.

Specifically, President Ruto assured the locals that the new SGR terminus will connect the people of Kisii to traders in Kisumu county and Malava thus boosting cash flow among the traders.

Additionally, President William Ruto called upon the county government of Kisii, to quickly make necessary documents ready for the National government to shift the Southern Kenya Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) show to Kisii, as that would enable him to transform the Gusii stadium to international level.
