The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has firmly ruled out any plans to join forces with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
ODM Youth League leader Kasmuel McOure said on Sunday, November 9, that Gachagua’s political beliefs and leadership style do not match ODM’s values. He stated that forming any alliance with him is “impossible.”
Speaking through his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Kasmuel said the youth wing of ODM will continue to call out party members trying to push the idea of working with Gachagua.
“No matter how convincing some leaders may sound, we cannot be persuaded to work with Rigathi Gachagua,” he wrote.
According to Kasmuel, Gachagua’s way of doing politics has brought division and tension in Kenya’s political scene. He described the former DP’s approach as “backward” and harmful to national unity.
The ODM Youth League leader also made it clear that the party will stay committed to working with President William Ruto’s administration under the broad-based government arrangement — an idea inspired by ODM leader Raila Odinga before he took up his African Union role.
“We shall remain part of the broad-based arrangement where Raila Odinga left us and continue pushing for reforms that will build a better and more inclusive Kenya,” Kasmuel stated.
He urged ODM’s elected leaders to engage young people in all political processes and to ensure genuine youth participation rather than empty promises.
Kasmuel further emphasized that ODM will continue to hold the Kenya Kwanza government accountable to ensure it fulfils its commitments — including improving the economy, reforming the police, empowering communities, and compensating victims of police brutality.
“Our only condition for continued support is that these promises must be delivered. We, the youth, will keep pushing until that happens,” he said.
Kasmuel’s message comes amid speculation about new political alliances ahead of the 2027 elections.

His statement signals ODM’s intention to focus on unity and reforms rather than joining forces with leaders whose politics, according to him, threaten national progress.
