Oburu Dismisses Winnie Odinga’s Push for ODM Delegates to Reassess Ruto Pact

ODM Party Leader Oburu Oginga has downplayed Winnie Odinga’s proposal for a National Delegates Conference to determine the party’s stance on its cooperation with President William Ruto’s administration.

Speaking during the ODM @20 celebrations in Mombasa, he said the matter would be addressed privately and not through a public directive.

Oburu noted that while Winnie had raised legitimate concerns about managing the broad-based government pact, party decisions must follow established leadership channels.

He emphasized that internal engagement remained the best way to resolve such misunderstandings.

The veteran politician, recently confirmed as ODM’s new leader, reaffirmed his commitment to uphold the direction previously set by Raila Odinga.

He stated that he would lead with consistency and ensure the party stayed aligned with Raila’s long-term vision.

Winnie had earlier questioned whether the current leadership could effectively steward the party’s relationship with the Ruto government in Raila’s absence.

She argued that only an NDC could give delegates the authority to determine who should manage the delicate political arrangement.

Her remarks reflected broader concerns within the party about maintaining cohesion during the transition period.

She insisted that ODM must return to its members and allow them to shape the party’s strategic choices going forward.

Oburu’s response sought to diffuse tension while defending the party’s current leadership structure.

He reiterated that ODM’s direction would not drastically change and that his stewardship would mirror the principles established under Raila.

The exchange highlighted emerging debates over how ODM should navigate its role in the broad-based government. It also signaled the possibility of deeper internal conversations as the party defines its post-Raila political identity.
