Her death shocked fans, friends, and fellow artists, and it reopened an emotional conversation about the future of her two children, Danivictor and Sky Victor.
Much of the public discussion has focused on who will take custody of the children. Betty shared them with her ex-husband, Pastor Victor Kanyari, but before her death, she had rebuilt her life and married Hiram Gitau, popularly known as Tash.
The children had been living with Betty and Tash and had grown close to him, which sparked mixed reactions online.
As the debate intensified, many blogs and social media users claimed that Pastor Kanyari and Tash were clashing behind the scenes.
However, Kanyari recently addressed his church and cleared the air.
He said he has no disagreement with Tash or with Betty’s family. He also urged Kenyans to stop creating drama around the children, saying Betty would not have wanted that.
According to Kanyari, he has not sat down with Tash to argue about anything, and he does not wish to see anyone attacking the late singer’s family online.
He also said he wants peace to prevail as everyone continues to process the loss.
The conversation grew louder after Tash was spotted meeting a city lawyer.
Many people assumed the meeting was about custody, but it was later confirmed that the discussion was actually about a brand deal for Sky, one of the children.
Even so, the public has continued to speculate about what will happen next. Kanyari has openly said he is ready to take care of his children.
He revealed that he has prepared a KSh 90 million home in Runda to ensure they have a safe and comfortable environment.
He added that he has always supported the children and will continue doing so.
He also blasted claims that he was absent, saying he had even attended Betty’s burial because his children mattered to him.
A memorial service was held on Sunday, November 16, where Pastor Kanyari paid an emotional tribute.
He described Betty as a caring mother and shared memories from their years together.
