ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna found himself under sharp criticism on Sunday after Mombasa Woman Representative Zamzam Mohammed publicly called him out during an ODM rally held in Kilifi County.
The event, which brought together several leaders and supporters of the Orange party quickly shifted in tone when Zamzam addressed what she described as growing tensions within the party.
In her address, Zamzam delivered a strong message to Sifuna, insisting that he should respect the party's leadership and the loyalty of members from the Coast region.
She warned the Secretary General against attempts to push out or undermine leaders who have stood firmly with ODM for many years.
Zamzam asked Sifuna who has been opposing the broad-based arrangement, to chart his own path and leave the party.
“We are telling Sifuna, if you no longer want to stay in the party, you can take your own path and leave. But you cannot remove us from the party. We, the people of the Coast, will remain in ODM.
I am fully behind Hassan Joho, I am behind Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir, I am behind my sister Gladys Wanga, and all of us are inside the broad-based government.” MP Zamzam said.
Her remarks came at a time when internal disagreements have been emerging within ODM following the passing of the party leader Raila Odinga.
Zamzam strongly defended former Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, saying that they will not allow anyone, including Sifuna, to intimidate him, reminding the crowd that Joho remains an influential figure in the region and a key pillar in the party.
