“If They Don’t Stop, Ban Them” – Alai Demands Action Against Aroko and Boyd Were After Deadly Kasipul Clashes

Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai has called on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to take strong action against independent candidate Philip Aroko and ODM’s Boyd Were after violent clashes in Kasipul Constituency left two people dead.

On November 7, 2025, Alai posted on his X account urging the electoral body to intervene.

“Hello @IEBCKenya, if sanity can return to Kasipul with the banning of Aroko and Boyd Were, please do it. Don’t allow the reign of terror to persist,” he wrote.

The clashes occurred on Thursday in Central Kasipul Ward, where supporters of Aroko and Were clashed during a campaign rally.

The confrontation turned deadly, with two men reportedly hacked to death as tensions escalated between the rival camps.

Following the violence, police increased patrols and deployed additional officers to maintain peace.

Authorities are working closely with the IEBC to prevent further incidents as the by-election scheduled for November 27, 2025, approaches.

The Kasipul seat became vacant earlier this year after the death of former MP Charles Ong’ondo Were.

The upcoming by-election has attracted several candidates, leading to heightened competition and rising tensions among supporters.

In response to the clashes, the IEBC issued a statement condemning the violence and warning political players against actions that undermine Kenya’s democratic process.

“The Commission condemns, in the strongest terms possible, the senseless acts of violence that have led to loss of lives and injuries,” the statement read.

The electoral body emphasized that all candidates and their supporters must follow the Electoral Code of Conduct, promoting peace, tolerance, and respect for the rule of law during the campaign period. It also warned that anyone violating these rules could face disqualification.

To investigate the clashes, the IEBC has dispatched a team to Kasipul with a mandate to establish the facts and recommend appropriate actions based on the law. This move aims to restore calm and ensure the by-election is conducted fairly and safely.
