Maritim, who was planning to contest for the Tinderet Member of Parliament seat, has been missing since October 27, 2025.
According to his family, Maritim left his home in Uasin Gishu County early in the morning to go for a jog.
CCTV cameras from a nearby building captured him walking out of his gate and stepping onto the road.
That was the last time he was seen. However, the CCTV clip that could have helped police in their investigation has now gone missing under unclear circumstances.
Reports from Citizen TV revealed that investigators had only retrieved the footage four days ago, but it has since vanished.
The sudden disappearance of the evidence has left many Kenyans suspicious about the handling of the case.
Adding to the mystery, Maritim’s mobile phone has been active even though he is missing.
Transactions from his phone show that KSh 10,000 and KSh 3,500 were sent to a man identified as Felix Kimutai Magut.
The police have not yet explained who this person is or why he received the money.
Maritim’s family says the investigation has been too slow. His partner complained that the police failed to collect the phones of the people who were last seen with him. She believes that crucial time was wasted in the first few days after he disappeared.
When he went missing, Maritim was wearing a grey jacket, blue track trousers, and grey sneakers. He is described as being in his mid-forties and of athletic build.
Residents of Uasin Gishu have held peaceful protests, demanding that the government take the case seriously.
Local leaders, including MP Julius Melly, have called on the police to speed up the investigation and find answers for the family.
Many Kenyans on social media have also shared their worries, saying that if such a thing can happen to a politician, ordinary citizens might be in even greater danger.
As the days pass, the family continues to pray and hope that Maritim will be found alive. The missing CCTV footage has now become the biggest question in a case that has shocked the entire country.
