Gachagua Joins Locals in Muguka Harvest as He Campaigns for Newton Karish in Mbeere North

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Tuesday stirred excitement in Mbeere North after he joined locals in harvesting muguka during a campaign tour for UDA candidate Newton Karish.

The former DP, who has been intensifying political engagements in the region, used the visit to strengthen ties with farmers who rely heavily on muguka as their main source of income.

Gachagua walked into the farms accompanied by local leaders, greeting residents before rolling up his sleeves to help with the harvesting.

His presence drew crowds of farmers and youths who said the gesture showed he understood their economic struggles.

During the visit, Gachagua praised the resilience of muguka farmers and urged them to support Karish in the upcoming by-election.

He said electing a leader aligned with the government would ensure the community continues to benefit from national development programmes.

He emphasized that the UDA administration is committed to promoting agricultural value chains, including muguka, which sustains thousands of families in Embu and surrounding counties.

According to him, strengthening the crop’s regulation and market systems would boost farmers’ earnings.

Karish, who received a warm welcome from residents, promised to champion policies that protect muguka farmers from unfair restrictions and ensure the sector receives government attention.

He said Mbeere North deserves leaders who understand its agricultural identity.

Residents expressed mixed reactions to the visit. Supporters said the DP’s involvement in farm activities portrayed humility and genuine interest in their work.

Others viewed the move as a strategic effort to win votes ahead of a heated by-election.

Gachagua concluded his tour by rallying voters to unite behind Karish and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to addressing local challenges.
