Amisi Says ODM Ignored Warning on Broad-Based Government

MP Caleb Amisi has once again reminded the ODM party that they were warned early enough about joining the broad-based government.

According to him, the party walked into a political arrangement that was never clear from the beginning, and now it is facing the consequences.

He argues that only someone who ignores common sense can repeat the same mistake and still expect a different outcome.

Amisi explains that the current broad-based government cannot be compared to President Mwai Kibaki’s Grand Coalition of 2008 or President Uhuru Kenyatta’s handshake deal with Raila Odinga in 2018.

Those two arrangements, he says, were guided by clear frameworks, written agreements, and well-defined responsibilities.

In both cases, the political partners sat down, negotiated openly, and outlined how the government would operate.

He notes that the situation today is very different. The broad-based government was introduced without any formal structure to protect the interests of those joining it.

Amisi says it was more of a verbal promise than a negotiated partnership, and this has left many leaders feeling sidelined and confused about their roles.

He believes ODM should have insisted on written terms before stepping into any form of cooperation.

The Saboti MP also argues that political unity should never come at the expense of clarity.

In his view, ODM rushed into the arrangement, hoping it would bring stability and opportunity, but instead, it has raised more questions than answers.

He says the party must now reflect on what went wrong and avoid repeating such decisions in the future.
