Detectives in Naivasha are investigating the mysterious death of Jane Wanjiru, a 31-year-old Mpesa operator and wife of a Kenya Defence Forces officer, whose body was found dumped near Delamere Farm along the Nakuru–Nairobi highway.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that Ms Wanjiru was in the company of some friends at a popular entertainment joint in Gilgil Town hours before she was found dead.
Witnesses say she appeared cheerful and interacted freely before leaving the club late in the night.
A post-mortem examination of Jane Wanjiru's remains, the Naivasha Mpesa operator whose body was found dumped near Delamere Farm on the busy Nakuru–Nairobi highway last week, has revealed that she was strangled to death.
The autopsy, conducted at Naivasha Sub-county Hospital Mortuary, showed that Wanjiru was raped before being strangled.
Naivasha Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss Isaac Kiama confirmed that her neck bore visible strangulation marks, pointing to a violent attack.
The deceased, who hailed from Kinangop in Nyandarua County, had left her home earlier that day to visit a salon in Naivasha before meeting friends later in Gilgil. That was the last time she was seen alive.
Her body was discovered by passersby the following morning, dumped a few kilometres from Naivasha Town.
Police suspect she may have been murdered elsewhere before being abandoned at the scene.
Investigators are now tracing her final phone calls to identify who she met before her death.
Friends and relatives have described Wanjiru as hard-working and kind, demanding justice for her untimely death.
Local leaders, including Naivasha MP Jayne Kihara, have condemned the brutal killing and urged police to fast-track investigations into the case that has shocked the entire community.
