President William Ruto has handed over the newly constructed Emurua Dikirr Modern Market in Narok County, saying the facility will provide small-scale traders with a safer and more dignified environment to conduct business.
Ruto said the market was designed to support Mama Mboga, boda boda operators, small-scale traders and other entrepreneurs by giving them improved facilities to run and expand their businesses.
Speaking during the handover, the President said the project reflected his administration’s commitment to recognising the contribution of small businesses to Kenya’s economy.
He said traders at the grassroots level play an important role in driving economic growth, noting that their contribution should be treated with the same importance as that of larger entrepreneurs.
“Every hustle matters,” Ruto said, reaffirming his administration’s focus on building an economy from the bottom up.
The President also used the occasion to defend his government’s record on implementing campaign promises, saying the Emurua Dikirr market was evidence that commitments made to Kenyans were being translated into physical projects.
According to Ruto, a government manifesto should not remain a document containing promises but should serve as a commitment to deliver projects that improve people’s lives and create economic opportunities.
He said the market would help create a better trading environment while supporting entrepreneurs seeking to grow their businesses and improve household incomes.
The project is part of the government’s broader push to improve infrastructure for small and informal businesses across the country.
Ruto said his administration would continue prioritising projects aimed at supporting ordinary Kenyans, particularly those operating at the grassroots level.
He maintained that strengthening small enterprises was central to achieving an inclusive economy, where more Kenyans can participate in economic growth and benefit from development.
The President said the Emurua Dikirr facility demonstrated the government’s approach of delivering development through projects intended to have a direct impact on local communities.
