Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has once again shown his kind heart after stepping in to help comedian Sammy Kioko, who is struggling to get paid Ksh19 million from the Machakos County Government.
The popular comedian, known for his role on Churchill Show and several TV skits, has been fighting for almost two years to receive payment for a completed county tender.
According to Kioko, he supplied items and fully delivered what was required, but his efforts to follow up with county officials have hit a dead end.
Speaking during an interview on Obinna TV, Kioko explained that the delayed payment has affected both his business and mental health.
He said he had reached out to several senior county officials, including Governor Wavinya Ndeti, but none responded to his calls.
Out of concern, the show host Oga Obinna tried to contact Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka, hoping he could help since Wavinya is a key member of Kalonzo’s team.
However, the comedian’s last hope seemed to fade after Kalonzo’s communication team reportedly warned Obinna to stop calling or tagging the opposition leader over the issue.
That’s when Sonko came into the picture. After watching the story online, he promised to meet Kioko and personally speak to Governor Wavinya to understand the problem.
Sonko said he respects the governor and believes the issue might be due to delays from the National Treasury in releasing funds to counties.
“I have seen Kioko’s story and I’m ready to help. Let him come to my office so we can talk to the governor. Sometimes, counties face financial delays, but we can still find a way forward,” Sonko said.
Meanwhile, the Machakos County Government has dismissed Kioko’s claims, describing them as politically motivated and meant to tarnish Governor Wavinya’s image.
