Kenyan leaders from different political backgrounds have joined the Odinga family in mourning the late Beryl Achieng Odinga, the younger sister of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Beryl passed away on November 25, 2025, while receiving treatment at a hospital in Nairobi.
Her death has brought sadness to many Kenyans, especially those who knew her personal achievements and long career across Africa.
Many leaders shared their condolence messages on social media, describing Beryl as a strong woman who served her community with dedication.
President William Ruto was among the first leaders to send his message of comfort. He praised Beryl as a trailblazer whose work took her beyond the borders of Kenya.
According to Ruto, Beryl made her mark as an exceptional urban planner in Zimbabwe during the 1980s. He said her skill and commitment played a role in shaping modern town planning in the region.
On behalf of the nation, the President offered his sympathies to the entire Odinga family and prayed for their strength during this painful moment.
Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka also shared his memories of Beryl. He revealed they were classmates at the University of Nairobi, where they studied law together. Kalonzo remembered her as humble, confident, and full of purpose.
He noted that Beryl carried herself with calmness and dignity, qualities that guided her through her long professional life.
In his message, Kalonzo also highlighted Beryl’s major achievement in Zimbabwe, where she became the first Black person to serve as the Town Clerk of Mutare, the country’s third-largest city. He described her as a woman who broke barriers and inspired many others.
Senate Speaker Amason Jeffa Kingi sent his condolences to the family and acknowledged the pain of losing another close family member just weeks after Raila Odinga’s death. Kingi prayed for God’s comfort and strength for the Odinga family during this period of grief.
He wished Beryl eternal peace, calling her loss a heavy blow to a family that has already endured much sorrow.
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula echoed the same message of sympathy.
He encouraged the family to find comfort in the memories they shared with Beryl and to draw strength from the life she lived.
Wetang’ula expressed hope that her memory would continue to inspire many people across the country.
Several other national leaders also joined in mourning the late Beryl. ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna sent his message of comfort, recognizing her contribution to society.
Siaya Governor James Orengo, one of the Odinga family’s long-time allies, also expressed his sadness at her passing.
Former Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho joined the list of leaders who celebrated Beryl’s life and comforted the Odinga family.
Many Kenyans also took to social media to share their condolences. They remembered Beryl as a woman who lived quietly but made a strong impact wherever she went.
Her work in law and urban planning showed her commitment to creating better communities and improving people’s lives.
