Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has for the first time revealed why he did not attend Raila Odinga’s state funeral at Nyayo Stadium and Parliament Buildings.
The political leader claims he received intelligence that he was being targeted in a plot orchestrated by the government.
He says plainclothes agents were allegedly planned to attack him and blame the Luo community, a move he feared would spark tribal tension.
Speaking in an interview with Inooro TV and Wimwaro Radio on November 16, Gachagua said his absence was not out of disrespect for the late leader.
“I was ready to attend Raila's funeral, but I was warned by police officers that there was a risk of being attacked. They said the government planned to use plainclothes officers to harm me and blame it on people from Nyanza to stir conflict,” he explained.
