Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has responded firmly to Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi’s warning that he would face a strong Kenya Kwanza-backed candidate in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during an interview, Natembeya dismissed Mudavadi’s threat, challenging him to bring a candidate and campaign directly in Trans Nzoia rather than issuing statements from afar.

“Let him come and see the work waiting for him. Let him not just sit in his house and issue threats,” Natembeya said.
The governor criticized Mudavadi and National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula for focusing on political rivalry instead of addressing the long-standing development challenges in Western Kenya.

He highlighted poor infrastructure, neglected communities, and economic stagnation in Mudavadi’s hometown of Sabatia as examples of unmet priorities.
“While I work on development and addressing real issues, they spend time plotting how to remove me from office. It is a waste of time and effort,” Natembeya said.

He further argued that Western Kenya, despite its large population, has historically been overlooked in national leadership roles and key positions in security.
Natembeya also revealed his role in securing important national positions for the region. He said he pushed for Gilbert Masengeli to be appointed Deputy Inspector General of Police and for Lieutenant General John Mugaravai Omenda to become Vice Chief of Defence Forces, pointing out that Mudavadi did not assist in these achievements.
“I made some noise until we got the deputy IG position. We have never held the position of Chief of Defence Forces since independence. I made noise again until Mugaravai, a Maragoli, was made vice chief of defence forces. Where was Mudavadi when this happened?” Natembeya asked.
The governor’s remarks come amid ongoing political contests in the region, including the Malava by-election.

Natembeya disclosed that he has been actively campaigning for DAP-K candidate Seth Panyako, who is contesting the November 27 poll.
He criticized attempts by outside leaders to impose candidates, saying local support is key to successful representation.
Natembeya urged Mudavadi to prioritize broader national interests, including efforts to support President William Ruto, instead of fixating solely on removing him from office.

He stressed that political energy should be channeled toward addressing development gaps, improving livelihoods, and ensuring that Western Kenya benefits from national resources.
