Masinde Muliro Student Found Dead in House, Last WhatsApp Chats Leaks

A university student in Kakamega County has been found dead in his home, leaving family, friends, and social media users in shock.

Peter Hezy, a 22-year-old student at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST), is believed to have taken his own life following an alleged heartbreak.

The tragedy came to light when Peter failed to attend class on Friday, November 21, which was unusual for him.

Concerned classmates went to his residence and found the door blocked with a stick. After forcing it open, they discovered Peter’s lifeless body, showing signs of self-strangulation.

Friends revealed that Peter had posted troubling messages on Facebook and shared worrying WhatsApp statuses before his death.

He reportedly expressed regret and pain over a complicated love situation. One close friend, Churchill Kipkoech, tried to reach him via WhatsApp, but Peter never responded. The last messages remained unread until the tragic discovery.

“It’s very sad. He had shared posts expressing sadness over a relationship. We tried to reach out, but we never heard back,” Churchill said.

Peter’s death has been linked to an alleged love triangle, according to friends. Many people online believe the heartbreak may have been a key factor in the incident.

The university has not yet issued an official statement, while police have confirmed that investigations are ongoing.

The news quickly spread on social media, with Facebook users reacting with heartbreak and messages of consolation.

Morine Masinde commented, “Sasa huyu kijana mbona alijiua? Surely he did not know there are so many other people who care.”

Another user, Charity Kalush, wrote, “Mapenzi itatumaliza. Kuachwa is not the end of you. There’s still life ahead. Why take your life?”

Several students and young people also shared their own experiences, using Peter’s story as a reminder to support friends going through emotional challenges.

Lreene Dacho Mbori, a student leader, called for mentorship programs in universities to help students handle stress and personal issues.

This tragic incident follows similar heartbreaking cases, highlighting the growing concern around mental health among students.

Experts say young people facing relationship problems, academic pressure, or emotional challenges often lack adequate support systems. Families, friends, and institutions are encouraged to be vigilant and provide guidance whenever needed.

In addition to the social media reactions, the family in Kisii County, where Peter hailed from, is mourning the loss of their son. The news has left a lasting impact on the community, students, and peers who knew him personally.

The incident has sparked conversations about mental health, emotional wellbeing, and the importance of reaching out to loved ones.

Social media, while powerful for communication, also exposes young people to added emotional stress, experts say.

Authorities are urging young people to seek help from counselors, friends, or family when facing mental or emotional challenges.
