Japan Endorses President Ruto’s Vision to Transform Kenya into a Modern Economy

President William Ruto’s mission to propel Kenya into a modern, first-world economy has gained significant backing from visiting Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kato, who expressed confidence that Kenya is on the right track and capable of achieving its ambitious goals.

President Ruto has often cited Asian success stories, including Japan and South Korea, as models for rapid development.

Japan, renowned for its disciplined economic growth and innovation, has pledged strong support and collaboration with Kenya to advance its “modernization agenda.”

During a joint press briefing at Jubilee House, Nairobi, on Monday, Prime Minister Kato commended Kenya for making strategic policy decisions that are expected to accelerate progress in multiple sectors.

He highlighted affordable housing and infrastructure development as central pillars of Kenya’s vision to emerge as a modern economy.

“We have observed the government’s commitment not only to economic growth but also to improving infrastructure and providing quality housing for all citizens. Kenya’s speed and focus are remarkable,” Kato said.

The Japanese leader also praised the efficiency and determination demonstrated in the rollout of large-scale housing projects across Nairobi and other cities.

“I am impressed by the pace and the results achieved. Many countries, including Japan, often take longer to implement such ambitious programs. Kenya is showing exceptional leadership and dedication to its people,” he added.

Prime Minister Kato said he was confident that Kenya’s development under President Ruto would yield measurable results in the coming years.

“What I admire most is Kenya’s discipline and strategic planning. With the determination I have seen, I am certain the country will achieve its modernization goals,” he noted.

President Ruto welcomed the support, noting that Japan’s development model — grounded in long-term planning, innovation, and institutional discipline — serves as inspiration for Kenya’s roadmap.

“This partnership reflects what can be achieved when a nation commits to excellence, avoids mediocrity, and implements smart policies,” Ruto said.

During the visit, Kenya and Japan signed several agreements aimed at deepening cooperation.

These included a Bilateral Air Transport Agreement to enhance connectivity, a Tourism MoU to boost cultural and economic exchange, and a trade and investment pact between the National Chambers of Commerce of both nations to encourage business collaboration.
