Govt Lists 147 People to Receive Payments in 30 Days

The Unclaimed Financial Assets Authority (UFAA) has announced that 147 individuals and organizations have 30 days to claim money and other assets that belonged to their deceased relatives or former owners.

In a notice published in the Kenya Gazette on November 7, 2025, the authority listed the names of the claimants and asked anyone with objections to come forward before the payments are made.

The Acting Chief Executive Officer, Caroline Chirchir, said the authority had verified claims made by the listed persons, who applied as administrators of estates or agents of the original owners.

“Notice is issued pursuant to regulation 12 of the Unclaimed Financial Assets Regulations, 2016. If no objection is received within thirty days, payment will be made to the mentioned persons,” read part of the notice.

Most of the unclaimed assets are held by banks, insurance companies, and other local corporations.

UFAA also released another notice for two people who reported that their policy documents had been lost, saying their cases would still be processed through sworn affidavits.

The authority’s move is part of the government’s larger plan to reunite Kenyans with funds left idle in financial institutions. These assets include unclaimed bank balances, insurance benefits, and dividends.

According to UFAA Board Chairman Francis Njenga, Kenya still has a large amount of unclaimed funds.

“We are looking for the owners of Ksh82 billion to come and collect their money. Our job is to reunite the assets with their rightful owners,” he said earlier this year.

Njenga added that the authority only pays out about Ksh2 million every month, which is a very small portion of the total amount.

He urged Kenyans to check the UFAA website or visit their offices to see if they have any unclaimed assets.

UFAA’s head offices are located at Pacis Centre along Waiyaki Way in Westlands, Nairobi.

The public can also use the online search platform to confirm if their names or those of their relatives appear on the list.

The authority reminded Kenyans that if no objections or claims are made within the 30-day window, the listed individuals will automatically receive the payments.
