Siaya Governor James Orengo has honoured the memory of the late Raila Odinga by presenting Mama Ida Odinga with a commemorative portrait prepared by the Kenya Inter-County Sports and Cultural Association (KICOSCA) National Committee.
The presentation, held on Tuesday, was described by Orengo as a meaningful tribute to Raila Odinga’s long-standing impact on Kenya’s political journey and social development.
“This portrait symbolises a remarkable legacy, decades of service, and the inspiration he leaves behind for generations to come,” Orengo stated during the ceremony.
The event was attended by members of the Odinga family, regional leaders, and officials from KICOSCA, all of whom reflected on the former leader’s dedication to public service and nation-building.
Orengo noted that the gesture not only celebrates Raila Odinga’s achievements but also honours his steadfast commitment to democracy, unity, and progress.
He also revealed that Siaya County has been selected to host the 2025 KICOSCA games, saying the decision aligns with Raila Odinga’s belief in promoting national cohesion through sports and cultural interaction.
“Hosting KICOSCA 2025 is a proud milestone for Siaya. It carries forward the spirit of unity and excellence that Baba always championed,” the governor added.
The portrait is expected to serve as a lasting reminder of Raila Odinga’s influence, inspiring emerging leaders and communities to uphold the values he stood for.
The ceremony further underscored the importance of acknowledging national icons whose contributions continue to guide the country’s future.
Governor Orengo urged Kenyans to embrace Raila Odinga’s spirit of unity, service, and commitment to uplifting society.
