Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has stirred political debate in Luo Nyanza after dramatically comparing himself to the biblical Joshua during the burial of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga at JOOUST in Bondo.
In a moving speech that blended faith, politics, and prophecy, Mbadi likened Raila to Moses — a leader who guided his people through political wilderness but never lived to see the “promised land.” According to Mbadi, Raila’s death marked the end of an era but also the beginning of a new chapter for the Luo nation.
“When Moses saw the Promised Land, he knew his mission was complete,” Mbadi said emotionally. “Raila was our Moses. He showed us the path to freedom and unity. Now it’s time for Joshua and Aaron to take over and lead us forward.”
The CS, who has been a close ally of Raila for decades, revealed that the ODM leader left behind a clear message for his supporters — to unite and work closely with the current government in pursuit of national progress.
“Before a great leader dies, he knows what comes next. Raila showed us he wanted us in government. We will honor that,” Mbadi affirmed.
He went on to announce that in 30 days, the Luo Nyanza region will unveil its official political direction, signaling possible realignments within ODM and beyond.
His statement has been widely interpreted as a hint that the region might embrace collaboration with President William Ruto’s administration — a bold move that could reshape Kenya’s political landscape after decades of opposition politics.
Mbadi concluded his eulogy with a promise: “Our Moses may be gone, but Joshua is ready. Nyanza will not wander again.”
