Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga has issued a stern warning to residents, urging them to respect the grave of the late political giant Raila Odinga.
Speaking during a memorial gathering, Senator Oburu emphasized that taking items placed on graves is not only disrespectful but could also attract misfortune.
“Graves are sacred places. The late Raila Odinga contributed immensely to this country, and his final resting place deserves utmost respect,” Oburu said.
He added that anyone caught removing items left at the grave may face not only societal backlash but spiritual consequences.
“People should understand that grave sites are sacred. Disturbing them is an act that can bring a curse,” he cautioned.
Oburu’s remarks come after reports of individuals allegedly taking offerings from the grave of the late former Prime Minister, sparking outrage among residents.
The Senator reminded the public that grave robbing or tampering with memorial items is a serious offense, both culturally and morally.
The late Raila Odinga, who passed away earlier this year, is remembered for his decades-long political activism and advocacy for democracy in Kenya.
His grave in Siaya has become a pilgrimage site for many, with admirers leaving flowers, candles, and other tributes to honor his legacy.
Oburu stressed that these gestures should remain untouched to preserve the sanctity of the site.
“Let us honor him by observing the traditions of respect and reverence. What people leave there is a mark of love and remembrance, not to be taken lightly,” Oburu noted.
The Senator’s warning serves as a reminder of the cultural importance attached to graves in Kenya, where disturbing them is considered not only disrespectful but potentially dangerous.
Residents have been urged to report any suspicious activities near the grave to local authorities and to uphold the legacy of Raila Odinga through respect and reverence.
As the community continues to mourn the late leader, Oburu Oginga’s message is clear: honor the departed, respect traditions, and let the memory of Raila Odinga remain untarnished.
