A police officer stationed at Jogoo Police Station has been charged after a shocking incident in which he allegedly threatened his superior before shooting a colleague.
The officer, identified as Daniel Lokidongoi, was accused of causing grievous harm to Constable Cliff Nyanumba during an altercation.
On the same day, Lokidongoi had been deployed alongside two colleagues to supervise a demolition exercise at Uhuru Market.
He had been issued an AK-47 rifle loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition for the operation.
Later in the evening, Lokidongoi is reported to have consumed alcohol before confronting a shopkeeper at gunpoint while demanding money.
The shopkeeper escaped unharmed and rushed to report the matter at Jogoo Police Station.
This prompted the Officer Commanding Station, Caroline Njuguna, to summon him.
On arrival, Lokidongoi appeared heavily intoxicated and issued threats against his superior while also attempting to turn the weapon on himself.
After leaving the office, he continued to issue threats, forcing the OCS to call for reinforcement.
Several officers, including Nyanumba, approached him at the crime office in an attempt to disarm him.
During the struggle, a gunshot was discharged, injuring Nyanumba on the hand and grazing the back of his head.
He was rushed to Komarock Hospital for emergency treatment.
Lokidongoi was disarmed, arrested, and placed in custody.
Investigators recovered the rifle, a spent cartridge, and two bullet heads from the scene.
He was later arraigned before Makadara Law Courts, where Chief Magistrate Kennedy Bidali released him on a bond of Sh200,000.
The case is scheduled for mention on October 9 as investigations continue.
