Mike Sonko, a former governor of Nairobi, has commented on a social media video that went viral and showed a male gym trainer and a female trainer acting out romantically.
Sonko responded to the video by criticizing what he described as an increase in immorality in Kenyan gyms.
In order to prevent improper behavior, he recommended that men and women attend different training sessions.
"This is what happens when men and women insist on sharing the same gym," Sonko reacted to the trending video.
Sonko is correct in saying that the degree of vulgarity in the video is excessive, even though the video may have been created specifically to capitalize on social media trends.
Online responses to the popular video have been conflicting. Sonko's worries were shared by some social media users, who pointed out that gyms ought to uphold a certain standard of discipline.
"What if they are indeed married couples and just having some good time together on the gym," one X (formerly Twitter) user clashes with Sonko's thoughts.
Others countered that the video might have been manufactured for the sole purpose of following social media trends, which is a common practice nowadays.
The situation is a serious one, given the fact that some gym patrons are married, and such observed behavior raises grave concerns about infidelity among them.
However for the idea to total be wiped out as Sonko expects, a lot should be put into gym rules and conduct.
