"He is Resting" - Ida Odinga Finally Breaks Silence Amid Rumours About Raila's Health

Ida Odinga, wife of ODM leader Raila Odinga, has broken her silence amid growing rumours about her husband’s health, assuring Kenyans that the veteran opposition leader is in perfect condition.

Speaking in Kisumu East during the launch of Dr. Ida Girls Secondary School, she said the reports circulating on social media about Raila being hospitalised abroad were entirely false.

Ida described the claims as baseless and politically driven, adding that her husband is simply taking some time off after a busy schedule.

“In the past week, people have been unsettled by rumours claiming Raila is sick,” she told the crowd.

“If he were unwell, I would be the first to know. He is healthy, resting, and has even sent his greetings to all of you.”

She added that Raila’s absence should not be misinterpreted, saying leaders also deserve moments of rest away from the public spotlight.

Her remarks came just hours after ODM Communications Director Philip Etale disclosed that Raila had personally called him, amused by the false stories spreading online.

According to Etale, Raila was in high spirits and even joked about the situation, urging Kenyans to pray for those who thrive on misinformation.

Meanwhile, Raila’s spokesperson Dennis Onyango condemned what he termed as deliberate attempts by political opponents to create confusion through doctored images and AI-generated videos.

He noted that such tactics are part of a growing trend of digital misinformation aimed at discrediting national leaders.

Onyango explained that Raila’s temporary absence from public events is due to one of his regular international trips and not related to any medical emergency.

He emphasized that the former prime minister remains fully active in his engagements and continues to follow national developments closely.

Both family members and ODM officials have urged Kenyans to disregard the misleading online posts and to rely only on official communication from credible sources.

They insisted that Raila Odinga remains in good health, strong in spirit, and committed to resuming his political duties once he returns to the country.

Ida concluded her statement with a call for restraint, asking Kenyans to be cautious about what they share online.

“Let us not be quick to spread lies that can harm others,” she said.

“My husband is fine, and we thank everyone who has shown genuine concern.”
