Gachagua Takes a Jibe at Kalonzo, Matiang'i:" Opposition Nearly Died when I was Away"

DCP Party Leader Rigathi Gachagua has taken at jibe at other opposition figures, claiming they are incapable of thriving without his presence.

He described how the momentum within the opposition significantly declined during his recent visit to the United States.

Gachagua asserted that he is one of the most outspoken leaders in the United Opposition and would ensure President William Ruto is defeated if selected as the coalition’s presidential candidate.

"I am campaigning for the position of the presidency, and should I be picked as the united opposition flag bearer, I will bring the prize home. When I recently flew out to the United States of America for over a month, the opposition nearly died. I’m the most vocal, focused, and determined in ensuring the united opposition carries the day,”

Mr. Gachagua said, seemingly taking a swipe at his fellow opposition leaders.

He also repeated his stance that Kenyans would not accept a splinter group or a third political force. He emphasized that all aspirants must win public support on their own merit, stating, "I will not carry anyone on my back."

Gachagua argued that his impeachment from the Deputy President role does not disqualify him from vying in the 2027 presidential race.

According to him, his legal team has assured him that since he is actively challenging the impeachment in court and has not yet exhausted legal remedies, he is still fully eligible to contest.

Others in the opposition who have announced their presidential ambitions include DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa, PLP leader Martha Karua, and former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.
