Albert Ojwang's Dad, Son Gets Emotional At Raila Odinga's Grave

A touching moment unfolded in Bondo when the family of the late activist and teacher Albert Ojwang visited the grave of Raila Odinga to pay their respects.

The family’s visit, led by Albert’s father Meshack Ojwang, drew emotional reactions from Kenyans who still remember how Albert’s life ended under unclear circumstances earlier this year.

Albert’s death shocked many. He had been arrested in June while at home in Kabondo Kasipul, Homa Bay County, and later taken to the Nairobi Central Police Station.

Days later, his family was told that he had died in police custody. A postmortem report later revealed that he had suffered several injuries, pointing to possible assault — something that caused anger and sadness across the country.

Last weekend, Meshack travelled with his wife and their grandson to Kang’o Ka Jaramogi, where Raila Odinga was buried. Witnesses said the family looked heartbroken but calm.

Meshack’s wife carried a large wreath, which she laid on Raila’s grave as her husband quietly directed her where to place it. Their young grandson stood close to them, watching silently.

The family said they felt the need to visit Raila’s grave because the late leader had always stood for truth and justice — values that Albert also fought for until his last day. The visit was a way of honoring both men’s legacies.

A short video shared online by @Lindaguts showed the emotional moment, and Kenyans quickly shared it with heartfelt comments.

Many praised the family for staying strong despite their pain. One user wrote, “Baba Albert’s courage reminds us why we must never stop fighting for justice.”

Another added, “Raila’s dream of a fair Kenya lives on through people like Albert.”
