A Gangster Assaults Woman and Forcefully Sends Ksh 50,000 Via Mpesa to His Own Account Before Arrest

Detectives in Samburu have arrested a key suspect linked to violent robberies in Maralal town after a daring raid that almost turned fatal.

The suspect, identified as 20-year-old Christopher Ayok Lemarkele, was apprehended following days of intelligence-led operations.

Police said he was armed with an AK-47 rifle when he and an accomplice stormed a shop in Maralal while pretending to be ordinary customers.

The situation escalated when the gangsters pointed their firearms at the cashier and demanded money.

In a moment of bravery, the cashier attempted to push away the weapon.

During the struggle, Lemarkele fired a shot that grazed the woman’s left breast, causing a painful soft tissue injury.

The victim was rushed to Samburu County Referral Hospital, where she received treatment and was later discharged in stable condition.

Meanwhile, the suspects transferred Ksh 50,000 to their M-Pesa accounts before fleeing the scene.

Police immediately launched a manhunt, which led to Lemarkele’s arrest at his hideout.

Detectives recovered several items believed to have been used in the robbery, including a green jungle hat, a smoke jacket, a jungle green jacket, and a jungle belt.

Authorities confirmed that Lemarkele is now in custody and will face charges in court.

His accomplice, however, is still on the run, with detectives vowing to track him down and bring him to justice.

Police have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities as they continue efforts to curb rising cases of violent robberies in the region.
