Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka has sounded the alarm over disturbing reports of alleged violence, intimidation and unlawful extortion targeting residents and small-scale traders in Nyanchwa, Kitutu Chache South, in an incident that threatens to inject fresh anxiety into the region’s security landscape.

According to the senator, reports reaching his office indicate that armed individuals allegedly descended on residents and traders during the night, reportedly looting property and leaving several people injured.

The claims have triggered serious concern, with Onyonka calling for swift, impartial and comprehensive investigations to establish what transpired.

The senator has further raised allegations linking the suspected perpetrators to the so-called Green Army personnel recently employed by the Kisii County Government.

He claims there have been complaints that some individuals have been imposing illegal taxes and fines on members of the public, raising questions over the conduct and supervision of county enforcement personnel.

Even more explosive are allegations that some of those implicated could be boda boda operators and that their activities may have enjoyed political protection or backing.

Onyonka has urged security agencies to follow the evidence and ensure that anyone found culpable faces the full force of the law, irrespective of political connections or status.

The senator has also vowed to personally pursue the matter with the Kisii County security leadership, insisting that residents must be protected from violence, intimidation and abuse of authority.

The developing controversy places renewed focus on security and accountability in Kisii, as residents demand a peaceful environment where they can conduct their businesses without fear.

For Onyonka, security remains a fundamental right that must never be reduced to a political privilege.
