Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung’aro has outlined a raft of measures targeting healthcare, water security, agriculture and disaster preparedness as his administration moves to strengthen service delivery across the county.
Mung’aro spoke after chairing the 37th meeting of the third Kilifi County Executive Committee, where members reviewed several priorities forming part of the county’s development agenda.
A major focus was the proposed Kilifi County Risk Management Policy, which is expected to strengthen the county’s ability to identify, prevent and respond to emerging risks.
“We deliberated on key priorities that are central to our development agenda and the delivery of quality services to the people of Kilifi,” Mung’aro said.
The county executive also assessed preparations for the expected long rains and El Niño conditions, with the governor saying the administration was taking steps to protect communities and infrastructure from possible weather-related disruptions.
“We also reviewed our preparedness for the expected long rains and El Niño to ensure that the County is ready to prevent, respond and protect our communities and infrastructure,” he said.
Healthcare remains another major priority, with the county pursuing external financing to upgrade the Kilifi County Level 5 Hospital.
Mung’aro said Kilifi was seeking financing through the National Treasury from the Italian government to support construction and upgrading works at the facility.
“This investment will significantly strengthen our healthcare infrastructure and advance our commitment to providing quality and accessible healthcare,” the governor said.
On water, the county is exploring Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) as part of efforts to develop sustainable solutions to persistent water challenges.
Mung’aro singled out the proposed Sabaki Water Carrier PPP Project, which he said had the potential to transform water access across Kilifi.
Agriculture also featured in the executive committee discussions, with the county set to use the Kilifi County Agricultural Soil Management Guidelines 2026 to promote sustainable farming and improve productivity.
Through the guidelines, farmers will receive support on soil management, sustainable agricultural practices and measures aimed at improving soil health.
“Our priority remains clear: to build a resilient, productive and better-served Kilifi where every resident can benefit from quality and sustainable development,” Mung’aro said.
