In a statement released on Wednesday, November 12, Gachagua claimed he has reliable intelligence that certain government officials are mobilizing individuals to attack him and his supporters during campaign events.
He called on the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, to take immediate action to prevent possible violence.
The Democracy for the Citizen Party (DCP) leader pointed to a viral video showing a group of men allegedly issuing threats against him.
He named Simon Njagi Njiru (alias Gitundo wa Gitundo), Josiah Kariuki Ngari (alias Mtetezi Puff), and Susan Nyaga as among those involved in the alleged plot.
“A video clip is circulating showing these individuals threatening me and my supporters when I visit Mbeere North for my candidate’s campaign from November 16,” said Gachagua.
According to him, despite providing police with evidence, none of the suspects have been arrested or charged.
Gachagua linked the group to Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire and Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku, claiming one of the suspects works as Mbarire’s communications director.
“You are aware that these people are close associates of Governor Mbarire and CS Ruku. We demand their immediate arrest before the by-election to avoid chaos,” he added in a letter addressed to the IG.
Gachagua further alleged that the government is financing intimidation efforts against his camp to weaken his political activities. He warned that if the police fail to ensure his safety, his supporters will protect him themselves.
“I have credible information that state-sponsored goons have been mobilized in Mbeere North ahead of my arrival. If the police fail to protect us, the people will do it themselves,” he warned.
The former deputy president has in recent months positioned himself as one of the most vocal opposition figures, often accusing the Kenya Kwanza administration of betrayal and political persecution. The Inspector General of Police is yet to issue an official response to the claims.
