“Handshake Loading?” — Alfred Koech Sparks Massive Debate After Predicting Power-Sharing in Tanzania

Political analyst Alfred Koech, popularly known as The Sergent, has set social media ablaze after boldly predicting that “Tanzania will end up with a Handshake government.”

The post, which attracted thousands of reactions within hours, comes amid ongoing political unrest and protests across Tanzania following the disputed elections. Protesters have called for transparency, while the opposition accuses President Samia Suluhu Hassan of manipulating the vote.

Koech’s comment immediately triggered a storm of mixed reactions from both Kenyans and Tanzanians online.

User Chesiboi Mutai-Kiprono agreed with Koech, saying, “I also foresee such an arrangement,” while Bett Nelson added, “And that will be a win for Tanzania.”

However, others dismissed the idea. Jamal Marcus sharply replied, “Understand Tanzanian issues first before giving your opinion. Trust me, there will be no handshake.”

Kelvin Carson Wamalwa joked, “Maybe handshake with Kasongo,” referring to the embattled Tanzanian opposition leader, while Lucas Osoro commented simply, “Loading… Handshake.”

Another commenter, Ivone Ivy, asked sarcastically, “Handshake with who?” echoing widespread confusion about who might come together if Koech’s prediction comes true.

Ramoon Waters had a different view, saying, “A military-led transitional government is more likely.”

Adding humour to the thread, Joymercy Ronoh wrote, “Quarter-final: Tanzania 2025, Semi-final: Uganda 2026, and Final: Kenya 2027.”

While some believe a peace deal could cool tensions, others insist President Suluhu remains firmly in control.

Still, Koech’s “Handshake” prophecy has kept East Africans glued to their screens, as many now wonder — could Tanzania truly follow Kenya’s 2018 path of political reconciliation?
